A student's academic standing is determined at the end of each semester.

Academic standing is based on term and cumulative grade point average (GPA). It is reflected on students' academic transcripts.

Academic Standing Categories

Chancellor’s List and Dean’s List

Chancellor’s List
The Chancellor’s List is composed of the names of all full-time undergraduates who earn a 4.0 semester GPA on all work taken. Eligibility for this designation will be determined once all grades for the semester have been posted and any incomplete or IP grades have been converted.

Dean’s List
The Dean’s List is composed of the names of all full-time undergraduates who earn at least a 3.5 semester GPA on all work taken with no grades “B-” or below. Eligibility for this designation will be determined once all grades for the semester have been posted and any incomplete or IP grades have been converted.

Good Academic Standing

A student is in good academic standing if their cumulative GPA is at least a 2.0 and their term GPA is at least a 1.0.

Insufficient Academic Progress

A student is placed on Insufficient Progress when they are completing less that 67% of all attempted hours.

Students on Insufficient Academic Progress may not be making timely progress towards degree completion. Students should contact their academic advisor to discuss these issues and strategies to improve progress.

Must Be Reviewed

A student's status will say must be reviewed if they have been placed on an academic contract. An academic contract is an agreement between the student and their college with specific terms a student must satisfy to be allowed to continue enrollment.

Concerning Standing

Students who begin a semester in Good standing and earn less than a 2.000 cumulative GPA during that semester will have a standing of Concerning. Students with a standing of Concerning may enroll in fall, spring, or summer courses. Students who begin a semester with a standing of Concerning and earn a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or above will return to Good standing.

Warning Standing

Students who begin a semester with a standing of Concerning and do not earn a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or above will progress to a standing of Warning. Students with a standing of Warning may enroll in fall, spring, or summer courses. Students who begin a semester with a standing of Warning and earn a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or above will return to Good standing.

Appeal Required Standing

Students who begin a semester with a standing of Warning and do not earn a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or above will progress to a standing of Appeal Required and will not be permitted to enroll in courses and any registered courses may be dropped.

Students with a standing of Appeal Required who wish to re-enroll must submit an appeal requesting permission to enroll in courses.

Suggestions and Strategies to Help You Return to Good Standing

Following these suggestions can help you reach your educational goals.

Consider the Repeat Policy

Consider the Repeat Policy to retake up to three different courses that you earned a C- or lower in. The grade earned the second time will replace the previous grade earned when calculating your cumulative GPA and hours toward graduation.

The policy automatically goes into place the first time you repeat a course.

Speak with Your Advisor

Before the next semester begins, talk with your academic advisor about the balance of academic rigor in your schedule.

Keep your academic strengths and weaknesses in mind. Consider other time commitments you will have during the semester as well.

Leverage Free Academic Resources

Take advantage of the academic resources available to you. Some of these include:

Meet with your faculty during their office hours to improve your understanding of the material.
Improve your academic strategies with the help of a mentor.
Check out the Learning Center's Academic Achievement Resources.
Use the Learning Center's math services, study sessions, supplemental instruction, tutoring services and writing services, as appropriate for your courses.

Focus on Work-Life Balance

If you are enrolled in school full time (12 hours or more) and have a job, limit the hours you work. It's recommended that you study at least 2 hours outside of class each week for every credit hour to be successful.

Set Goals

Set goals for improving your academics and write them down. Review them throughout the semester to stay focused.

Read Your Syllabi

Read your course syllabi to be aware of how the final grade is factored and keep a good estimate of where you stand throughout the semester to assess the effectiveness of your study strategies and make adjustments if needed.
